A shot rang out at the Yardley Commons apartments at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Now SWAT have the 800 building surrounded.

Colluzi stated a probation officer was visiting a subject at the apartment complex. The situation became violent and the officer called for assistance.

“Chief Joe Kelly, the chief of Yardley Borough, responded to assist him. When he responded and entered the apartment, the male opened fire on the chief with a shotgun. The chief was shot in the hand and part of his ear.”

Colluzi added Kelly is receiving treatment at St. Mary Medical Center. The Yardley chief is “in good condition.”

“Thankfully he’s doing well.”

Colluzi added they’ve tried negotiating with the male suspect since the shooting. So far, there has been no response.

“It’s still an active scene. We’re hopefully going to end it without any other injuries,” said Colluzi. “However, we’re trying to do the best we can to negotiate with the individual and SWAT Team has the situation contained.”

Authorities from the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office are also on scene. Collectively, authorities have tried to evacuate as many people as possible.

WBCB will provide further updates on the situation as they develop.
