Get it while it’s hot! It’s National Coffee Day and some chains are offering free cups of Joe.

The exact origins of the holiday aren’t exactly organic or completely known. Some sources have refenced National Coffee Day dating back to 2005, but it may have more concrete roots in New Orleans.

Wawa is giving free coffee of any kind and any size with no strings attached. The chain expects to give away 1.88 million cups of coffee before midnight Wednesday.

People who think they can beat the system and go into multiple different stores to double- and triple-dip should know Wawa is one step ahead.

They’ve already said there’s no limit to how many times someone can go back to the same store for more cups. This should cut down on the need for the sneaky work arounds.

Wawa is continuing the offer through Thursday for teachers and school administrators. It’s part of their “Cheers to Classroom” initiative.

Starbucks is more stringent. People can bring in a clean, personal reusable cup up to 20 oz to participating locations. They’ll get one cup of Pike Place Roast brewed coffee.

Dunkin’, formerly Dunkin’ Donuts, is only giving away free coffee to a select group. Customers must be members of their loyalty program to be eligible.
