Urban Outfitters formally opened a new warehouse in Bristol Commerce Center this past week, potentially bringing hundreds of jobs into the surrounding area.
Construction of the 309,000 square foot facility began in early December. The fabric store will help the Commerce Center as a whole to employ more people than 3M did in the past when it operated a manufacturing plant.
President of Bristol Township Council, Craig Bowen, emphasizes the facility proposes “250 jobs to start and up to 650 jobs when they are fully operational.”
Urban Outfitters will also receive tax breaks on the property through 2022 due to its location in a state Keystone Opportunity Expansion Zone (KOEZ). Tenants do not have to pay state sales taxes on supplies and services contracts and no state corporate tax. These tax breaks help uplift economically distressed communities, such as Bristol Township.
“It just takes your breath away while you’re driving down Green Lane,” Bowen says, anticipating the benefits Bristol will reap from the new warehouse.
While technically open, the warehouse is still in its early days.
