WBCB once again had the privilege of joining two legislators recently at “senor expos,” which are annual opportunities for seniors to familiarize themselves with some of the many government services available in Bucks County provided by federal, state and county agencies — and speak to a live person.

These events are held by several of our state reps and senators, but this month we did two Speak Your Piece programs live with State Sen. Tommy Tomlinson and State Rep. Frank Farry.

It’s been my experience that many people, of all ages, are unaware of the multitude of services available in their own “backyard.” That holds true for the office of our congressman, Brian Fitzpatrick, who also had staffers on hand when he visited Rep. Frank Farry’s expo last week at the Neshaminy Senior Activities Center in Lower Southampton.

Usually in the mix at any of our senior events are representatives of private companies and hospitals and other related services.

Clearly, the needs of seniors on fixed incomes are real and it is important for everyone to learn more about the numerous government and free services available. It’s worth remembering taxpayers feed the government coffers, funding a myriad of department and agency budgets.

If you want more information you may contact the Bucks County Area Agency on Aging (215.348.0510) or any federal, state and county representative whose staff can direct you to the right place. Information is a phone call away. –PW
