The SEPTA board has unanimously voted to appoint PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards as their new General Manager. She will replace outgoing General Manager Jeffrey Knueppel this January.
In her new role, Richards will oversee 9,500 SEPTA employees. The new General Manager said she was honored to accept the appointment.
“SEPTA is critical to the vitality of the Philadelphia region, and to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a whole,” Richards said. “I am honored to be selected as the next General Manager, and look forward to working with SEPTA employees, riders, residents and other stakeholders to ensure we meet the region’s transportation needs now and for years to come.”
During her time at PennDOT, Richards implemented the Transportation Investment Plan and a metric-driven strategic investment approach for the 12-Year Capital Program.
As the sixth largest public transportation agency in the United States, SEPTA serves one million riders each weekday.
