UPDATE 12:55 p.m. : Route 1 has reopened, according to the Langhorne Police Department.
UPDATE 11:30 a.m. : Police responded to the scene near Neshaminy High School at 3:26 a.m. and found the victim, a 29-year-old female. Chief Joe Bartorilla stated the victim was hit by numerous passing cars, but none stopped. It is unclear whether the woman was walking along the side of the road or crossing the highway.
Police are still withholding the victim’s identity until they can notify her family. Anyone with information should immediately contact Ofc. Timothy King or Sgt. Michael Lubold at 215-750-3800.
The Middletown Township Police Department says one person is dead after a fatal accident on Route 1 Monday morning.
Both sides of Route 1 are still closed as of 11:35 a.m. while first responders assess the scene. Chief Joe Bartorilla said authorities pronounced the victim, a pedestrian, dead at scene.
Southbound traffic is being diverted to South Bellevue Avenue. PennDOT trucks just north of Neshaminy Creek are sending northbound traffic to Business Route 1.
Traffic congested side roads throughout the area. About a third of Neshaminy school buses were running late, according to the Neshaminy School District.
The highway was closed around 3:30 a.m., though authorities have not released any further information. Bartorilla said more details would be available after an investigation.
