Efforts continue in the fight against West Nile and the Culex Mosquito.

This weekend, the Birch Valley and Magnolia Hill sections of Falls Township were treated. Middletown Township benefited from the trucks carrying an ultra low volume spray through Forsythia Gate.

Bucks County Department of Health Director Philip Smith says it’s a bigger problem than ever before.

“West Nile is pervasive every year. This is probably the worst year,” Smith said. “I think the weather has played a factor in how bad it is this year.”

Smith also has some tips on how to avoid the nuisance.

“They are early morning biters, say 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. when the sun starts to get high in the sky,” Smith explained. “And then early in the evening, around 7:30 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.”

If someone plans to be outside during these hours, they should plan to use large amounts of mosquito sprays with DEET as an ingredient.
