The Falls Township community is pulling together after the tragic killing of a community member. 70-year-old Emanuel “Manny” Weintraub passed away in the hospital after being struck by a hit and run driver on the crosswalk in front of Jojo’s Ice Cream and Water Ice on New Falls Road.

Debbie Weintraub-Kalbach is the owner of the local hot spot and has decided to assist the family Weintraub was forced to leave behind.

Now Jojo’s is collecting donations to help his widow with funeral costs will be forwarding other proceeds as well. Tuesday nights, Jojo’s holds fundraisers for local organizations. The night of Weintraub’s death, there was a fundraiser for animal shelters.

“We are donating money back from the fundraiser we had that night,” Weintraub-Kalbach said. “Also, we’re asking people to drop off checks written out to Charlotte Weintraub.”

Emanuel Weintraub was an active member in the community and known by many in the Falls Township area. He was crossing the street with the assistance of a cane when he was hit by a vehicle. His clothes and belongings were strewn across the road in the aftermath.

“We really want to help this family, they are just so distraught,” Weintraub-Kalbach said. “They were very often customers at our store and they will be greatly missed by everyone.”

Police are still searching for the culprit. The vehicle seen in surveillance footage is described as a dark blue or black 4 door sedan missing its front right passenger hubcap with a damaged windshield and front end.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect and anyone with information should call Officer Stephanie Metterle at 215-949-9100 x 440. If someone comes across the vehicle on the road, they should first call police dispatch at 215-945-3100.
