Broccoli enthusiasts should be extra careful when enjoying those not so leafy greens. Giant food stores and Martin’s food markets are recalling a very specific food item as a precautionary measure.
The 16 oz. package of Private Brand Frozen Broccoli Cuts with sell by date of Mar 15, 2020 are being voluntarily recalled by the food distributors for fears of containing Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes are bacteria which most commonly causes listeriosis. The disease rarely affects healthy people but can be potentially fatal to the elderly, infants, and others with weaker immune systems.
Symptoms of listeriosis include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. It is also possible for the disease to cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
Anyone who ate broccoli from the specifically recalled bags with symptoms should seek medical attention. The Bucks County Department of Health Doylestown Office stated no recent cases of listeriosis had been reported.
The bags have been taken off the shelves and customers are offered a full refund when they return the broccoli.
