In a statement released Thursday, Bucks County Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick urged Congress to extend federal funding of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), emphasizing the need for affordable healthcare for children.

“It is crucial,” Fitzpatrick said. “In my home state of Pennsylvania, more than 176,000 children have gained access to comprehensive health care coverage through CHIP – providing them with age-appropriate medical and developmental care.”

Without action, CHIP was due to expire Sept. 30, 2017, and Pennsylvania will exhaust its CHIP funding by Feb. 2018.

Last month, the House of Representatives passed the legislation, but the Senate has yet to act. Extension of federal funding will help provide certainty and security for children, parents, and providers. Fitzpatrick also said the percentage of uninsured children nationwide has decreased by more than half since the program became law. -PW
