Bucks Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick joined 33 other Republicans in signing a letter demanding House Speaker Paul Ryan work with Democrats to pass a DACA amnesty before the end of the year.
The letter reads in part:
“We write in support of passing a permanent legislative solution for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients before the end of the year…
“We all agree that our border must be enforced, our national security defended, and our broken immigration system reformed, but in this moment, we must address the urgent matter before us in a balanced approach that does not harm valuable sectors of our economy nor the lives of these hard-working young people. … Reaching across the aisle to protect DACA recipients before the holidays is the right thing to do.”
Opponents claim there’s no urgency for Congress to consider DACA amnesty now since the president has given Congress until March to take up this issue, and attempting to pass DACA without taking steps to end future illegal immigration, will necessitate adopting another amnesty in the future.
Those Republicans favoring immediate and bipartisan action say it protects DACA recipients who are valuable contributors to our economy. –PW
