Falls Township is taking the next step to upgrade and restore its hockey rink at the Community Park.

The plan is to resurface the rink with new markings, fix the fences, seal cracks, and make other general improvements.

“Our hockey rink is very heavily used,” said Supervisors Chair Jeff Dence at Tuesday night’s Board of Supervisors meeting. “And it’s very outdated.”

The Board approved a measure Tuesday to advertise the project to potential bidders.

They expect to start hearing offers March 11, with construction getting underway in early May.

Talk of the project began last July when the Board of Supervisors authorized a grant application.

If approved, the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program grant would cover $138,988.60 of the total cost. The township would then cover the remaining $24,527.40.

If for some reason the Commonwealth Financing Authority denies the request, officials have said the plan is to pay for the $163,516 anyway.
