In a startling revelation, two former members of the now-defunct Morrisville Ambulance Squad allegedly took advantage of the system for seven years and stole a total of more than $130,000.

Bucks Detectives say ex-chief Brian Michael Eckert, 41, and former operations supervisor Ruth “Roxy” Rookstool, 58, conspired together to forge signatures on checks, receive fraudulent reimbursements, and illegally enroll in healthcare coverage.

According to authorities, Eckert and Rookstool used the stolen funds to pay off credit cards, veterinary treatments, and even a squadmate’s honeymoon.

The check forgeries included the use of the signature stamp of squad president Laurie Hoffer used without her permission. This allowed them to clear without raising suspicion.

The old squad occupied the Morrisville ambulance squad building on North Washington Street until Capital Health took over operations in September. The current squad includes many of the members from the old guard.

Rookstool is accused of stealing more than $101,000 with bail set at $50,000 unsecured. Meanwhile, Eckert allegedly stole slightly less than $31,000 and was released on $30,000 unsecured bail.
