The Super Bowl is a time for friends to enjoy the day regardless of which teams make it to the big game. But with big festivities come the responsibility of planning ahead to make sure everyone gets home safe.

In Lower Bucks, the following police departments will be going out on patrol:

  • Lower Southampton Township
  • Middletown Township,
  • Newtown Borough,
  • Newtown Township,
  • Penndel Borough
  • and Warrington Township.

Officers throughout Pennsylvania arrested more than 3,400 people for DUI in February of last year; A review of the numbers shows many came during Super Bowl weekend.

Executive Director of the PA DUI Association C. Stephen Erni warned prescription medication and illegal drugs have worsened the problem. He also stressed the importance of getting a safe ride home from the celebration.

“The Super Bowl is one of the most watched sporting events in the country and is celebrated by many fans regardless of who is competing in the game,” Erni said. “Drinking establishments host various events and many fans throw parties; unfortunately, these functions often lead to impaired drivers on our highways.”

The other municipalities in Bucks engaging in patrols this Sunday include Plumstead, Richland, and Upper Southampton Townships.
