The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded a $253,058 grant to the Morrisville Police Department for school safety. Morrisville is the only beneficiary in Bucks County.

As a competitive grant, police departments must apply for the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office School Violence Prevention Program. The DOJ COPS Office has awarded a total of $900 million in grants through the years. This year, the SVPP had $33 million to dole out to schools throughout the country.

Almost 600 organizations and departments applied for the COPS SVPP, but only 103 received any award. These funds must be used “to improve security at schools and on school grounds in the grantee’s jurisdiction through evidence-based school safety programs.”

The Morrisville School District will be the prime beneficiary, with Holy Trinity School seeing improvements as well.
