A state grant awarded to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office will go toward reducing gun violence.

At $223,129, the Gun Violence Reduction Grant comes through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

“This grant will allow us to make a difference in the fight against straw purchases of firearms, and therefore against gun violence,” said DA Matt Weintraub.

Straw purchases are the “illegal purchase of a firearm by one person for another,” according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

“It’s been proven over the years that people that purchase guns illegally tend to use them illegally,” said Weintraub on Speak Your Piece this Thursday.

The grant funds will be used to purchase investigative equipment and pay overtime for police officers.
