Bucks County, Trenton Open Cooling Centers During Heat Wave

Head indexes in the Bucks County and Trenton, NJ areas could reach 110 degrees Sunday through Tuesday. Local officials are opening cooling centers as safeguards against these dangerous conditions.

Temperatures will reach into the high 90s. However, the heat index, or “feels like” measurement will be much higher.

These conditions can prove deadly for anyone without air conditioning, especially the elderly. Cooling centers will provide air conditioning to anyone in need.

Bucks County has some key advice for residents through the next few days.

“People are encouraged stay out of the sun as much as possible, hydrate liberally and keep to air-conditioned or otherwise well-ventilated rooms. Be sure to check in on elderly relatives, friends and neighbors.”

In Bucks, eight cooling centers will be open during the hottest hours of the coming days. With many senior centers closed, some municipal buildings and community centers are opening their doors.

All attendees in both Bucks and Trenton must wear masks and practice social distancing.

Trenton is opening two senior centers plus five pools. All pools have a maximum capacity of 60 people.
