With temperatures dropping to an expected 16 degrees in Lower Bucks, the county has declared a code blue. This is the first of the season, opening homeless shelters to those who need cover from the cold weather.

The code blue begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday night and extends until the morning of Saturday, Dec. 21.

While the cold is enough reason to want to stay inside, winds could reduce “feels like” temperatures by even more. The county estimates wind chills could reach zero degrees by Thursday morning.

In Lower Bucks, people in need can go to Emmaus Road Lutheran Church, located at 2185 Bristol Oxford Valley Road, Levittown. The county states guests should not arrive before 9 p.m.

People should check on their elderly neighbors and pets during cold weather.
