PennDOT has announced the day it will begin construction on Big Oak Road. On Thursday, Sept. 19, the bridge crossing I-295 in Middletown will close between Harpers Crossing and Hickory Lane until late October.

A detour will direct motorists to Oxford Valley Road, Heacock Road, Stony Hill Road, Langhorne Yardley Road, and Township Line Road.

Big Oak Road bridge was built in 1967 and has received limited care throughout its years, besides patchwork. PennDOT estimates it carries 8,126 vehicles per day.

“This bridge improvement project is our latest in the ongoing effort to improve bridges throughout the state, and to ensure a safe transportation network for all Pennsylvanians,” Governor Tom Wolf said.

The overall project includes seven bridges throughout Pennsylvania. It will cost $4.5 million.
