A Bensalem fire company is on the receiving end of a substantial grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

This $100,000 grant for the Union Fire Company, Station 37 comes as part of the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant program.

SAFER is designed to make recruitment and retention easier for volunteer fire companies. so they can maintain 24-hour staffing.

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick announced the funding late last week.

“In order to save our local fire departments and ensure our communities have the necessary first responders, we must focus on increasing the volunteer force. I am pleased to announce another fire company in Bucks County has received the SAFER grant, and I will continue to advocate for the other local departments who have applied.”

Earlier this month, Fitzpatrick announced grants for the Bristol Third District and Chalfont fire companies.
