An undercover operation between the Bensalem Township Police and FBI has netted a man they believe to be a child predator. Investigators began their investigation in Jan. 2019 and contacted the suspect on Kik.
Keval Patel, 28, allegedly expressed interest in engaging in sexual activity with a pre-teen to undercover agents. Authorities say the Bensalem man also sent a nude photograph of himself to an officer, believing they were a minor.
However, detectives believe Patel had already engaged in similar behavior with other young girls. He faces charges of sexual abuse of children and unlawful contact with a minor.
Police arrested Patel Wednesday. He posted 10% of $400,000 bail.
A popular messaging app among teenagers and young adults, Kik allows people to chat without using a cell phone number. This allows users to register anonymously, which can open the door to exploitation. The app’s CEO Ted Livingston revealed it reached 40% of teens in 2016.
The Bensalem Township Police Department is asking people to come forward with any information about Patel or other possible child predators at 215-633-3719. Additionally, parents are asked to regularly check their child’s devices.
